
Jakob Tower is located in the southernmost part of Bangladesh, in the Char Fashion upazila of Bhola district. The tower was designed by architect Kamruzzaman Liton. It is about 225 to 250 feet high. It is a 16 storied tower which is the tallest tower in South Asia. A tourist can see around 360 degrees from the top of this tower. A tourist can see up to a hundred km from the top of the tower. The tower has been built following the design of the Eiffel Tower to enrich the country’s tourism sector.

Construction and inauguration: One Tourist needs to pay BDT 100 to visit the whole of this tower. In February 2013, the construction of the tower started on about 1 acre of land allotted by Char Fashion Municipality, and after about 5 years later; The tower was first opened to the public on January 16, 2018. President Abdul Hamid visited Char Kukri Mukri on a two-day tour of Bhola on 16 January 2018 and inaugurate this tower. About 50 tourists can stay on each floor and about 500 Tourists can enjoy simultaneously in this tower. Jakob Tower is 70 kilometers away from Bhola Sadar. The estimated construction cost of this tower is Tk. 200 Million. A luxurious resort is attached to the tower, which cost another Tk 100 Million.
The shape of the tower: Built entirely on a cast-piling foundation 75 feet below the ground, the tower can withstand a magnitude 8 earthquake. There is a 5 mm diameter transparent glass on the surrounding aluminum of the Watchtower that is from the ground up to the dome-shaped watchpoint. There is a capsule lift along the stairs to reach the top. High-powered binoculars have been installed at the top of the tower. This allows tourists to see distant places. With the help of Binoculars, an area of about 100 square kilometers can be seen from the top of Jacob Tower. From this tower, a tourist can easily see Char Kukri-Mukri, Tarua beach, Char Pial of Swapnadwip, Monpura, Nijhum Island of Hatia and Bay of Bengal.

Naming of the tower: It was not called Jakob Tower at the beginning of construction. Former Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed visited the tower under construction on May 16, 2017, and was impressed by the construction style and aesthetic beauty of the tower and named it ‘Jakob Tower’. The tower is named after Bhola-4 MP Abdullah Al Islam Jakob who is also Deputy Minister of Forests and Environment. He did it to promote tourism in Bhola.

Tower travel costs and travel time: One Tourist needs to pay BDT 100 to visit the whole of this tower. An elevator will take visitors to the topmost levels, providing a scenic display of the picturesque mangroves, sea, and river of Charfashion. The Jakob Tower is open to visitors every Saturday to Wednesday from 9 am to 8pm. From Saturday to Wednesday, Jakob Tower remain closed from 12:30 pm to 3 pm. On the other hand, it opens every Thursday at 9 am and closes at 12:30 pm. Due to a large number of visitors on Friday, the tower opens at 2.30 pm instead of 3 pm.
