Tour to Tajhat Palace of Rangpur (2016) | NRD’s Tour 031

It was 2016!

Asif and I went to Lalmonirhat for audit work. I realized that this might be the last trip of my CA life at Lalmonirhat. And so I wanted to visit Rangpur district very much. Due to the pressure of work, we could not even think of traveling for the first two days of our audit work. Finally I took the plan to travel from Lalmonirhat to Rangpur on the 4th day.

It was a sunny day of 30th August 2016 when I visited some places of interest in Rangpur. We left for Tajhat Jaminder Bari early in the morning from Lalmonirhat Sadar and reached there at the mid of noon. The two of us reached Rangpur by local bus at a cost of about 60 Tk per head, total 120 Tk. It is better to say that only these local buses are used to travel from Lalmonirhat to Rangpur. Rangpur is about 36 km far from Lalmonirhat. Tajhat Jaminder Bari is about 5.6 km far from Rangpur Sadar. The weather of that day was very warm hot due to the sun. But my travel excitement seemed to be no less.

I reached the Tajhat Jaminder Bari at Rangpur Sadar very easily. After reaching Rangpur Sadar we hired a local rickshaw with the help of that we reached at Tajhat Jaminder Bari. We reached Tajhat Jaminder Bari by rickshaw from Rangpur Zero Point at a cost of 30 Tk. Before entering the palace, we took some light breakfast. After a light breakfast at exactly 12:30 we entered the Tajhat Jaminder Bari.

After entering the Tajhat Jaminder Bari, it was as if I had gone back to the past for some time. At some point, it seemed to me that the coconut trees at the entrance of the Tajhat Jaminder Bari were welcoming us to the Palace. It’s like I was really lost in the early 20th century.

The Tajhat Jaminder Bari was designed in the Europeans style. It is said that Maharaja Kumar Gopal Lal Roy built this palace which took about 10 years to construct. Maharaja Gopal Roy was a Hindu and a goldsmith by profession. According to many, the area is known as Tajhat because of his charming ‘Taj’ or crown. I was actually very happy and thrilled to see the palace. The two of us bought two tickets for 80 Tk for at Tk 40 per head. Since I love to take photos, I could not resist the urge to take photos in this historic Palace.

The ‘U’ shape of the Tajhat Jaminder Bari makes it really look like a living kingdom. Different types of ornamental flower gardens have made Tajhat the queen of nature. Even though there was a lot of heat, the touch of the flower seemed to bring the people inside me more alive. Inside the Tajhat Jaminder Bari, there is a museum where various items used by the Jaminders can be seen. Different things in the palace has witnessed different histories. I couldn’t actually take any pictures inside the palace. It’s because no pictures are allowed to capture inside the museum. But there was no place inside or outside the Tajhat Jaminder Bari that was not seen and enjoyed by us.

Today, it has been almost four and a half years since I visited Tajhat Jaminder Bari. But so far the memory of traveling to the Tajhat Jaminder Bari fascinates me. If I get a chance, I will go to the Tajhat Jaminder Bari again and enjoy the beauty.
